The core values of Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church are:
Scriptural: We are a firmly and deeply rooted and driven by Scripture, the insired and therefore infallible and inerrent Word of God and therefore trustworthy and authoritative for all of life. In Scripture, the triune God has revealed himself authentically, clearly, and decisively through historical acts in human history, in the hearing and sight of many witnesses, who, by the gracious guidance and teaching of the Spirit, recorded these events authoritatively in human language so that the world might know the Truth and Reality of God’s redemptive plan, most explosively and gloriously revealed in the person, life, work, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh.
Trinitarian: We are firmly trinitarian, believing the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are one, holy and transcendent God in three persons existing with/among one another in the perfect fellowship of love, unity and mission—thereby establishing the foundation and pattern for all of life.
God the Father is the personal, living, all-powerful creating, sustaining, ruling, providing, protecting, redeming God of holiness, justice, goodness, mercy, truth, and love.
Jesus of Nazareth, is the Son of this living God, the life-giving Word of this God in human flesh; truly man and truly God—by whose perfect life, righteous suffering, substitutionary death, public, bodily resurrection, and glorious, bodily ascension—secured our own personal salvation and the certain, complete realization of God the Father’s vision for the restoration of all creation.
The Holy Spirit is the very Spirit of God/Spirit of Christ by whose breath, wisdom, strength and power, the people of God, those redeemed in Christ by faith, are called, made alive, sealed, nourished, equipped, taught for the “good works” of God’s redemptive plan that have been prepared for his people to do for the display of his glory.
The Church is the one community of many individuals with many personalities, each called by name and equipped to be a part of a community of fellowship in love, unity and mission for the display/proclamation of God’s Trinitarian glory and grace.
All individuals are each uniquely and specially created by the Word of God himself and bear his image; that outside of Christ this image is irreparably marred and twisted and with each passing day outside of Christ is increasingly marred and twisted.
The Good News of God in Christ is proclaimed to all, and made effectual among those who have been elect and called by name according to God’s astounding mercy from before the foundations of the world; and that the Good Word of God in Christ has power to create new life, to restore the image of God and that, as those who have been redeemed, the image of God’s holiness, justice, goodness, mercy, truth and love will become increasingly apparent with each passing day in Christ.
This Church is called to embody the hope of God’s presence in his world through worship, proclamation, demonstration and fellowship; thereby becoming a cause of rejoicing in our immediate communities, and a display of the only hope of the nations.
