God’s VISION for Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church

At Chattanooga Valley, we pray, according to God’s revealed will in Jesus Christ, “to see Chattanooga Valley and the Nations overwhelmed by the glory of God and transformed by the grace and peace of God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ working in His people by His Spirit for the display of His glory.”

God’s vision for his Church, “the mystery of God’s will” for his people (including Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church (CVPC)) and his world (including Flintstone, Chattanooga Valley, and Northwest Georgia), is overwhelmingly simple and profound:

…in the fullness of time to unite all things [in Christ], things in heaven and things on earth. (Ephesians 1:10)

Paul states the same vision more explicitly in Colossians:

For in [Christ] all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of the cross. (Colossians 1:19-20)

In Romans Paul says that even:

…the whole creation has been groaning…in anticipation of this vision being fulfilled… (Romans 8:18-23)

In both Ephesisans and Colossians Paul goes on to encourage the believers with the fact that they exist because God is bringing to fruition this vision in Christ. The encouragement is no less poignant for CVPC: we exist in this place in this time because the living God is realizing his vision to restore all things in Jesus Christ.

From this Biblical Vision of God’s work in Christ grows our sense of our Identity: Who we are and why we have been placed here. The congregation of CVPC is part of God’s New Humanity, created in Christ Jesus to embody and display the goodness, righteousness, justice, mercy, and holiness of the Good God by the indwelling of his Good Spirit through Good Works for the display of his Glory throughout his world.

And so we pray, and so we worship, and so we labor - in faith-filled dependence upon the power of the Living Christ at work by his Spirit - to see all things in Flintstone, Chattanooga Valley, and Northwest Georgia find their Right and Good place and function in Jesus Christ and so know the Good Life, Joy, and Hope of God by Christ, and know it abundantly.
