Order of Worship for 08.10.08

Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
Ps 95

As I (Albert) was driving out of downtown I looked up and saw a beautiful sunset. The sun, setting behind the ridge, created a bright orange sky and caused the Tennessee river to sparkle. I immediately thought “Wow, what a God we serve, he has created and sustained the beauty of his creation. If he can sustain this kind of beauty maybe he can sustain me too.” No sooner had the words left my mouth than I realized the deceit of my heart.

In Psalm 95 the Psalmist calls the people of God to sing, to make music, to offer thanksgiving, and to offer songs of praise. Why? Because the Lord is GREAT!! He is the God above all other Gods. He has the deepest part of the earth and the highest mountain in the palm of his hand. He owns the seas and he created the dry lands.

We are called to worship and bow down because the same God who owns all of creation owns us too! We are his workmanship, he is our God. He holds us in the palm of his hand. Our hearts need not despair or wonder if the God of creation will sustain us too. He has promised us, he will do it. Look to Sunday Worship with longing and excitement!

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
